There is a Reason –

Nobody leans on drugs or alcohol because they’re happy. Sure, some people drink and use drugs when they think they are happy, but they don’t LEAN on them. There’s a huge difference between USE and ABUSE. When you get to a place where you are using drugs or drinking almost daily, not because you “want to”, but because you think you “have to”, something is at the root of that. It Is likely some kind of trauma, which can take any number of forms. It could be money, it could be relationship issues, it could be work. Whatever it is, there is a cause, and that cause needs to be addressed and repaired.

You Need to Work Before You Can Work –

In order to get to the work of repairing the cause, you need to have a clear mind. That means a mind free of drugs and alcohol. THIS IS HARD, but the challenge becomes exponentially more difficult if you’re not in the right place for you – you need to be in a place that is comfortable – not folding chairs in the basement of a building. The right environment is essential for getting the best results out of the work that you are going to do.

You Need a Partner, Not a Dictator –

Nobody likes simply “doing what they are told” – and being promised that if they follow instructions, they will get the results that they want. You need a true partner in this – someone to sit alongside you through all the steps of your reclamation process. You need to have a team alongside you – not to be sent on your way with a map and a compass. You need support, partnership, and guidance.

Treatment is Not Punishment –

Deciding to address your challenges with drugs and alcohol is an achievement, not an indictment.  You are choosing to improve your life – for you and for the people you care most about.  You are taking a stand, and you are admitting that you are no longer willing to accept that things have to be the way they are a moment longer.  You are better, you deserve better, and you are finally declaring that you are ready to do the work and make the changes necessary to be your true best self.  You have chosen to stand and fight, and that is the most honorable thing that a person can do for themselves and their loved ones.  It’s a monumental accomplishment, and you should think about it that way.  This decision is your first big win, in a long string of wins to come.
